So, I marked something off my bucket list that I didn't even know was on my bucket list. Celebrate Mardi Gras in New Orleans. As one of my friends reminded me on the trip, people actually do put this on their bucket lists! And we were actually doing it! Back in 2011, I lived in New Orleans for the summer working through the North American Mission Board. I had only been to the city once before, but that summer I fell in love with the city, the culture, and the people of New Orleans. It's a city filled with amazing food, a rich history, and great music. It's also known for its other side, you know, the one that comes out at night. So, we weren't too sure what to expect from a weekend in New Orleans on Mardi Gras weekend. We've all heard the wild and crazy stories about what people do for beads, the attire or lack thereof, and the craziness that can ensue. My Mardi Gras story is much different (although I'm sure we could have found that side if we really wanted to). We only went to parades during the day, avoided Bourbon street at night, and didn't do anything crazy to get all those beads down there. There were a couple of risque floats that young children shouldn't have seen, but I can truthfully say I saw no naked people the entire weekend there. And I call that a successful New Orleans trip. I did however get to revisit a city I love! Visit all my favorite spots, walk through Uptown, and eat the best bacon cheeseburger, cheese fries, and chocolate freeze. It's the meal I can't leave the city without eating first. Oh, and don't forget the beignets. There were most definitely beignets and a cafe au lait. Now, please enjoy some photos from my Mardi Gras trip to New Orleans. They aren't the best, but enjoy.
Have you ever experienced Mardi Gras in New Orleans? Have you ever been to New Orleans?

I can't fully take credit for these questions (only the answers). The kids at church played a game last Wednesday where they rolled a giant dice and took turns answering the question it landed on. There are some good questions and some of their answers made me laugh out loud. I decided to play along and answer them as well.
What is one thing you cannot live without? Coffee. I know the "correct" answer is Jesus and this is most certainly true, but the physical thing here on earth I cannot live without is in fact coffee. Some of the kid's answers that I remember: Jesus (high five for that kid) and a brain.
What is one room you would add to your house? A library. My dream home includes a library (think Beauty and the Beast here) complete with an over-sized chair and matching ottoman. Kid's answers: foam pit room, play room.
Which celebrity do you want to meet the most? Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake. Clearly the best bromance in all of celebrity world. Kid's answers: Ariana Grande (which led to a discussion) and one of the One Direction guys, I forget specifically.
If you could join the circus, what act would you most want to do? I would want to work with the elephants or be an acrobat/trapeze artist. Kid's answers: ringmaster, trapeze artist, the person who gets shot out of the cannon.
What is the weirdest food you've ever eaten? Shark. Kid's answers: Indonesian food (the focus country of the month), sushi, and other foods I can't remember, because they are normal for me.
How would you answer the questions above?

Every other Friday, I'm going to be sharing snapshots that I have taken in and around Mobile. Not only do I want to share with you guys this place, but it will help me to get out and explore. I love the idea of "snapshots", because sometimes they are quick and can be hurried, but always capture a memory. My photos may not always be perfect or frame-worthy, but I hope you enjoy them. I hope you enjoy seeing little glimpses of Mobile and I hope this encourages you to get out, explore your town, and take advantage of all your place may offer. This is #SnapshotsOfMobile. Enjoy!
Some days after work I'll stop in downtown Mobile and just walk around, this was one of those days. It was pretty cold and foggy outside. While driving back across the bay I could see that the tops of the skyscrapers were hidden by the fog. I decided to walk around and snapped this shot. I decided right away that I wanted it to be in black and white, because that just makes things classic. And I love cities in black and white.
When is your favorite time to walk around your town or city?

Hearting | Podcasts, sleep, and my new church. I've recently delved into the world of podcasts and I'm loving it. My morning commute to work takes about 25/30 minutes. It actually feels like the quickest drive ever sometimes, because traffic is good to me in the mornings, not so much in the evenings. Anyways, in the morning instead of listening to the radio, I've been listening to the Radical with David Platt podcast. It's very encouraging, convicting, and challenging. I'm also listening to the Serial podcast! So intriguing! Which leads me to a question I've been meaning to ask, what are your favorite podcasts? Sleep doesn't really need an explanation does it? Okay, good. Moving on to my new church. It's been the best place for me lately and I'm so glad God has led me to this place. I'm excited to keep growing and serving with this new family.
Reading | Jesus Is: Find A New Way To Be Human by Judah Smith and The Fifth Mountain by Paul Coelho.
Pinning | Not much lately. I go through spurts on Pinterest where I pin like crazy and then I will completely forget about it. I'm in that latter group right now.
Eating | At the moment of writing this? Panera. Because I'm also using their free wifi. Hopefully not for too much longer.
Anticipating | An extra long four day weekend coming up soon. Gotta love living in a city that gives you days off to celebrate Mardi Gras!
What are you currently up to this February?

I'm a fan of goals. Short term, long term, big and little. I will even write something on my to-do list that I've already done just to mark it off. Yes, I'm that person. There are things that I hope to do this year and I actually want to do them. Small, little, short term, long term. So, this year, I'll be joining in and posting my goals at the beginning of the month and then recapping the next month to see how well I followed through. Feel free to keep me accountable on these things!
Read two books | Nope. Didn't get this one done. I only read one.
Make and try two new recipes |Yes! Although, neither recipe was found from my new cookbooks I got for Christmas. And I still haven't used my new crock pot! Fail. The two recipes I tried were stuffed portabella mushroom caps and a one pot tomato-basil pasta dish. They were both very good!
Create a Facebook page for Polished Arrow | Nope. I still wasn't quite sure whether I wanted to actually do this or not. However, throughout the month different things have confirmed that this is something I should do. So, I'm looking to do this in February.
Draw...something |Sadly, no. Not yet. I love doing landscapes, but I'm not sure if I want to stay with that or try something new.
Write at least two letters and mail them |Total fail.
Read two books | If I want to reach that goal of actually reading 24 books this year, then I need to stick with this. I'm already one book behind!
Create a Facebook page for Polished Arrow | Through different conversations and encouragement from others, this is something I really want to do now. Be on the lookout for updates!
Join the Sunday Post Challenge | Elizabeth over at Oak & Oats came up with a great idea to have a Happy Mail Challenge! Every Sunday for the next nine weeks there is a different prompt on who to send mail to. I love getting mail and sending it out, so I'm looking forward to joining in on this challenge this month. This week's prompt is to send mail to a family member.
Memorize at least one Scripture verse | Having the Word on our heart as Christians is one of the most important things for growing in our walks. I have a bad habit of knowing Scripture, but not knowing where it is in the Bible. Or I can remember a reference, but not what it actually says. This year, I want to make it a priority to memorize the Word.
Make time for prayer | There may be days where I pray throughout the day, but I want to truly make prayer a vital and important part of my day. Because prayer is very vital to our lives as Christians, just like reading and memorizing the Word. Prayer is something I want to renew and refresh in my life, so it can renew and refresh me.
What are your February goals?
